Introduced in 2005, the Taylor T5 took the guitar world by storm. This acoustic/electric “hybrid” was praised by all the major guitar magazines and won numerous awards.

The T5 was originally offered in 2 model lines, “Standard” and “Custom”. The “Standard” was available in several finishes (not including Koa) and included Chrome Tuners and Pickup cover. The “Custom” was a little fancier, with more higher end wood choices (like Koa) and Gold hardware.

The guitar featured here is a rare “Standard” S2 Model that has the Chrome tuners of the “Standard” line and a Koa top like the “Custom” models. I think this was possibly an early relaease prototype, since I have never seen another one like it. In any case it is an extremely rare version of the original T5 guitar.

This guitar retailed for $2800 in 2005. New Koa T5 models are going for around the same today. The guitar comes with the form fitting, alligator print Taylor hardshell case. The case is a little nicked up from going back and forth to church, which is where this guitar was played. (I know that sounds like a bad car salesman’s pitch, but it’s true.) The guitar is in excellent shape and plays and sounds great, just like a Taylor should.
