Taylor_DDSM_Desert_RoseIf you know much about Taylor guitars, you know that fingerstyle virtuoso Doyle Dykes has a long running relationship with Bob Taylor and his guitar company.  Taylor has offered a Doyle Dykes Signature Model (DDSM) for quite a few years.

The “standard” DDSM models (these are anything but standard) are distinguished in several ways.  First, they are crafted of beautiful, highly figured big-leaf maple with a Sitka Spruce top and finished to a high gloss.  They feature ebony fingerboards and tuners and gold plated hardware.  The body shape is the Taylor Grand Auditorium with a distinctive Venetian cutaway and lots of abalone inlay.

The crowning touch on every Doyle Dykes model is a pearl and abilone inlay of a rose on the headstock.  If you get a chance to see Doyle in person he usually tells the story of why the rose is there.  It’s in honor of an experience he had with his daughter Heidi and is quite a story, but I’ll let you hear it from him.

As beautiful as these guitars are, they really shine when plugged in.  Each string has it’s own individual pickup which doubles as the bridge and the latest models are available with either the Taylor Expression system or a LR Baggs Doyle Dykes Signature System, which Doyle helped design.

The Tayor Desert Rose model is a very special Limited Edition version of the Doyle Dykes Signature Model.  The story goes that Doyle saw a picture of himself onstage with Duane Eddy and Duane had this big old orange guitar that really stood out.  Doyle went to Bob Taylor and asked about making an orange DDSM.  Bob agreed to produce a limited number but with a few aesthetic changes.

The Desert Rose guitar was produced in very limited quantities for a couple of years and in currently out of production.  These guitars rarely come up for sale and the one featured here is even more special because it has been autographed by Doyle Dykes on back of the headstock .  If you are looking for a really unique guitar to add to your collection, look no further.  This Desert Rose is truly a work of art that plays and sounds as good as it looks.
